We're rekindling the Greek spirit of Footscray with a giant mural and tapestry of the people that made it all happen.

Footscray is an inner-West suburb of Melbourne, renowned for its multiculturalism. During the 60-80s it was heavily populated, and therefore influenced, by the recently arrived Greeks. The street presence and cultural prominence of this era is largely gone, but its legacy still carries on through some multigenerational businesses, local residents and their stories as well as the cultural memory of the wider Greek community.

The Greek Youth Generator have conducted local outreach, collected photos and imagery and, in collaboration with Alex Lehours, reimagined a tapestry of this local history. This tapestry will become a large-scale mural in one of the suburb’s busiest laneways and will reawaken Footscray’s Hidden Hellenism.
